we belong with the ocean | 2017 Ghana

Based on the topics ‘Wata Mata’ (pigeon English for ’water matters’) and ‘Mami Wata’ (a mythological West African creature, in form of a mermaid, known to steal men from their wives, mostly described as female yet sometimes takes on male characteristics.)

'We Belong With The Ocean' is a series about recognising that we are the ocean and the ocean is us. Experiencing Water as the element of all life and its existence without any gender. However, are we living in a society that puts structures of gender not only onto beauty and human beings but also for example the genderless ocean. This series should bring awareness to the forces we put on capturing beauty, which results in the pollution of our own and of everything that has created us.
